Key features include a magnesium alloy body, multi- view finder, top grip with recording controls, inter- changerable lens system, SuperRange optical image stabilizer, manual control, slow shutter, zebra pattern, 4 channel digital audio system, time code, digital fader, headphone terminal, IEEE 1394 (FireWire)/DV in/out, LANC (remote) terminal, 4:3 or 16:9 switchable capability and remote control with joy/shuttle dial.

The Canon XL1S Kit includes XLS1 body, viewfinder and microphone, 16 x IS 5.5-88mm zoom lens and shade, 3 lithium batteries, AC adapter/battery charger, remote control, shoulder strap, stereo cable, S-video cable, and rolling Pelican carrying case.
